EArly Social Thinkers (EAST) Lab (The University of Chicago)
Who Can Participate |
For 5- to 9-year-olds and their parents |
What Happens |
In the first part of the study, you will read some information and answer some questions. In the second part, you will read a picture book to your child. You will be asked to describe several natural and social events and explain why the event took place to your child, similar to how you would read a picture book to your child at home. In the last part, your child will watch some videos and answer some questions. |
What We're Studying |
Parents play an important role in shaping children's development. In this study, we are interested in how parent-child conversations about differences between social groups would affect children's ideas about these group differences. The study will help us understand how to counter stereotypes and discrimination and increase group equity from a young age. Importantly, at the end of the study, we will emphasize that all children, regardless of their backgrounds, can participate in different kinds of activities. |
Duração |
25 minutes |
Compensação |
Participants will be emailed a $5 (US dollars) Amazon.com gift card by the following Monday after finishing the study. To receive the gift card, the child must be between the ages of 5- to 9-years-old, and both the child and the parent must be visible during the entire session. Each parent-child dyad can only participate and receive compensation once. |
