For babies aged 11 to 13.5 months or 15.5 to 17.5 months residing in the United States. Because your baby will listen to some English in this study, your baby should be learning English as their first language. They should hear at least 55% English in a typical day. |

This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. In this study, you will first fill out a short survey about you and your baby, such as demographics and your child's language experience. Then, your baby will watch a short video filled with cute toys and hear new names for them (like "dax"). Then, your baby will watch as the toy is hidden inside a box, and will then see us retrieve it from the box. We will measure how long your baby looks at the toy that comes out of the box. |
現在の研究・調査 |
We are interested in what babies remember about objects they have seen, and whether they remember it better if the object (like a particular bunny) was given its own name. Babies pay close attention to what we say to them, even before they can produce their own words. This tells us that how we name objects for them can already guide how they think about these objects. Here, we are asking if babies still remember an object even if it is hidden for a moment and then reappears. Your baby’s interest in the object is influenced by the way it was named. |
