In this study, your child will be introduced to friendly creatures who speak different languages. The creatures like to play games of telephone where information about a toy is communicated from one wub to the next. We are curious whether children understand that a bilingual speaker is needed to translate between two monolingual speakers who cannot understand each other.

We are interested in children's intuitions about different languages. Do they understand that people who speak different languages will have trouble communicating with each other? Furthermore, do they understand that someone who is bilingual can bridge the gap between two monolingual speakers by translating for them? We are interested in children come to understand these kinds of things as well as how children's own language experience might shape how they think about language in general.
