Caregiver-Child Conversations about Faces

For 8- to 9-year-olds

This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. In the study, caregivers and children will be shown a series of images and asked to talk naturally about the images and make decisions about them. The researcher will be present on the video call, but will not be part of the conversation. Following the conversation, caregivers will be asked to complete a short survey about their use and attitudes toward online media and technology.

The purpose of this study is to understand how caregivers and children have conversations about these images, specifically looking at how conversation characteristics and caregiver responses influence families' decision-making about these images. This work is important for developing strategies that guide how caregivers can support and scaffold children's decision-making and critical evaluation.

Upon participation, families will receive a $5 Amazon.com e-gift card for participating via email. There will be one gift card per caregiver-child dyad, and the child must be within the age range for the study.
