研究・調査の流れ

This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you.
During the Zoom call, your child will sit on your lap and be shown images on the screen while hearing sounds and words that go along with them. We will play these for them as long as they are interested in them, and stop when they are no longer interested! We'll record how long they want to listen to different types of images and sounds!

現在の研究・調査

When infants learn words, they need to learn not only the meaning of the word but also when a change in the sounds of the word results in a change in meaning. In English, lexical stress sometimes changes word meaning (e.g., PREsent (a gift) vs. preSENT (to show)). In this study, we aim to explore whether infants think the word has the same meaning when the lexical stress changes.
By understanding whether infants notice when the lexical stress of a word they just learned changes, researchers can learn more about what aspects of sounds infants think are important when they learn new words.
