First, your child will first learn about how a toy works. Next, your child will watch short videos of a teacher teaching other kids about that toy, so that they can learn about how that teacher usually teaches -- that is, her teaching style. Then, the teacher will teach your child about something new. Finally, your child will answer some questions about the teacher (e.g., how important they think it is to know about the things she shows). This scheduled study will take place over a Zoom video call with a researcher, and takes about 15 minutes. Before your scheduled study session, we will ask you to fill out a consent form and to complete some brief parental questionnaires about you and your child (takes 5-10 minutes total). You may choose to skip any questions you prefer not to answer, and all responses will be kept strictly confidential and used only for research purposes. These forms must be completed before your child can participate! If you have not filled out these forms before your scheduled study session, we will kindly ask you to complete the forms once you are on the Zoom call with the researcher. |

We know that different teachers may choose to teach in different ways -- that is, they may use different kinds of teaching styles. But, we know much less about how children's learning differs based on what they know about how a particular teacher tends to teach. Your child’s participation in this study will help us understand how children’s expectations about how someone teaches can influence what they take away from future interactions. |
