Infants aged 12 months living in the United States.

研究・調査の流れ

You will first complete a questionnaire that asks about your baby's demographics and diversity within their caregiving network. This portion will last about 5 minutes. Then, your baby will look at pairs of men and women's faces showing different emotions. Some brief audiovisual clips (for example, short clips of music and cartoon animals) will play in-between the faces to help keep your baby interested in the screen. This portion of the study will also take about 5 minutes.

現在の研究・調査

Many factors may affect your baby’s attention to faces, including features that are based on a person's identity (such as gender and racial background) and features based on a person's feelings (such as emotional expression). Past studies have researched how identity and feelings change the way babies pay attention to faces separately, but not much is known about how these features work together to engage babies' attention. So, we are studying how varying combinations of facial features capture babies' attention when they look at different faces side-by-side.
