Children’s Thinking about Different Occupations

Children’s Thinking about Different Occupations

Social Kids Lab (University of Wisconsin-Madison)

Who Can Participate

For 6- to 10-year-old children

What Happens

This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Participate Now!” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. In this study, your child will see cartoon characters and hear about their jobs. Then, your child will be asked some questions about what they think about the characters and their jobs (e.g., "Which job would you choose to do in future?").

What We're Studying

In general, we know very little about how children think about occupation choices over development. In the current study, we are interested in learning what factors children use to reason about people’s occupation choices. Studying these questions will help us understand how children begin to think about a key component of the social world, and contribute to efforts aimed at introducing and explaining work and jobs to children.
