Spatial Development Lab at MSU (Montclair State University)
Who Can Participate |
For 6- to 12-year-olds |
What Happens |
This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Schedule a time to participate” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. Before the session, you'll complete a consent form, demographic questionnaire (e.g., DOB, race/ethnicity, gender identity) and survey about your child’s thinking and daily routines. During the session, your child will play several computer games. One game involves solving puzzles, and another asks your child to press specific keys, depending on what picture they see. In other games, pictures will appear quickly one after another, and your child will decide what they or another character can see by pressing buttons. These tasks help us learn how children think about what other people see, and what kinds of mental skills help them do that. |
What We're Studying |
We’re studying how children use their thinking skills—like focusing, ignoring distractions, and taking someone else’s point of view—when figuring out what another person sees. By understanding how these skills work together, we can better understand how perspective-taking develops over time and what is involved in this process. This helps us learn more about how kids make sense of the people and environment around them. |
