Morality and Development Lab (Emory University)
Who Can Participate |
For 5- through 10-year-olds in the United States |
What Happens |
This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Participate Now!” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. Children will be told about a variety of activities, such as "giving water to plants in a garden", and then be asked whether these activities 1) help or hurt the environment and 2) help or hurt people. |
What We're Studying |
In this study, we are interested in whether children believe certain behaviors that are commonly used to assess their environmental concern are actually environmentally relevant. For example, research sometimes asks children how bad "keeping the water running while brushing teeth" is. Adults likely understand that leaving water running is wasteful and bad for the environment. Children, however, may evaluate this behavior as bad because it breaks a common rule, not because it has consequences for the environment. This study will try to uncover whether children believe certain (un)sustainable behaviors are good or bad because of their environmental consequences or because of perceived social rules. |
