Who Can Participate |
3-5-year-old English-speaking children |
What Happens |
In this study, your child will watch a series of 2 short animated videos, each about 1-2 minutes long. In each video, a friendly bear named Chip will have two activities he wants to finish, and he can choose one of 3 houses to finish them in. Each house will either play a sound or will play no sound at all. After each video, your child will pick the house they *think* Chip is in. |
What We're Studying |
How do children think about noise in the environment? This study explores whether preschool children understand that the auditory environment can influence how well someone can achieve a goal. Sometimes, sounds in the environment can support a goal like sleeping or dancing, but sometimes they can hurt a goal. Adults very clearly have this intuition, but we don't yet know if children also do. This study will help us understand how children think about the auditory environment when learning, playing, and everything in between! |
