Baby's First Plant

A study for babies who are 10-15-month-olds

Your baby will watch short videos showing a plant and either a doll or a ball. We will measure your baby's looking time as we reveal one or both objects.

The goal of this study is to uncover how infants distinguish between different categories of objects, specifically plants. From previous research, we know that young infants look at more faces rather than objects, and categorically distinguish faces versus objects. We are particularly interested in whether infants perceive plants as a distinct category from other living and non-living entities. This question is crucial as it helps us understand the early stages of an infant's categorization abilities. Your baby will watch short videos showing a plant and either a doll or a ball. We want to see when and how long your baby is looking at the screen when we show them plants/objects/or both. This gives us insight into how infants make sense of the world around them, which is vital for their interaction with their environment.

Participants in this study will receive a $5 Amazon.com gift card as a token of appreciation for their time and contribution. This compensation will be delivered electronically on the same day or day after. Please note that to be eligible for this compensation, participants must fall within the age range specified for the study, and the child must be visible in the consent video. Limitations include only one gift card being available per participant.
