Help us learn the names of new toys!

Kids aged 4-7 years are eligible for this study.

In this study, your child will play three games! In the first game, your child will be asked to click on objects or drag objects to different areas of the screen. In the second game, your child will hear two people talk and then will choose which person they want to learn from. In the last game, your child will hear a word and be asked to click on the picture that shows the word.

Previous research has shown that children like to learn new words from people who sound like them. Is this because people who sound like them are the easiest to understand? We are interested in if children's ability to understand a speaker plays a role in their decision to learn from that person. In the second game, children choose to learn about a toy from speakers with varying speakers (some easy to understand and others hard to understand). In the third game, children will hear words and match these words to their pictures, to see how well they understand what the speakers are saying. The first game is a training exercise to get children used to clicking on the screen and prepare them for the next two tasks!
