Which wub knows how to make the toy ring?

Which wub knows how to make the toy ring?

Social Learning Lab (Stanford University)

Who Can Participate

3, 4, 5, 6, and 7-year-olds

What Happens

Your child will be introduced to friendly creatures - the wubs - and will watch two videos about them. In the videos, the wubs interact with a toy, pressing the buttons and lever, and with each other, either speaking or sneezing. After watching the videos, your child will be asked a question about which of two wubs knows how to operate the toy.

What We're Studying

As adults, it's often easy for us to reason about what others know. Sometimes this is as easy as listening to what someone says or watching how they behave. However, we can also reason about what others know by observing how they influence others. In this study, children are presented with scenarios where speakers interact with a listener by either speaking gibberish or sneezing towards them. Based on how the listeners act towards a toy afterwards, we're curious if children can reason about whether the speaker themselves was knowledgeable about that toy.
