Social Kids Lab (University of Wisconsin-Madison)
Who Can Participate |
For 6- to 10-year-old children |
What Happens |
This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Participate Now!” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. In this study, your child will see cartoon characters and hear brief stories about what those characters do for work. Then, your child will be asked some questions about what they think about the characters and their work (e.g., "Who do you think is listened to by other people?"). |
What We're Studying |
There is evidence that children begin to think about particular jobs–for example, being a teacher or a bus driver–early in development. However, in general, we know very little about how children think about different kinds of work and occupations over development. In the current study, we are interested in learning how children think about the social hierarchy of different kinds of jobs. Studying these questions will help us understand how children begin to think about a key component of the social world, and contribute to efforts aimed at explaining work and jobs to children. |
